Only a game?

Coaching young football players is harder than it looks. Individual skills like shooting, tackling and trapping the ball are easy enough to teach. But the fast flow and shifting shapes of a real game are hard to model on the training ground.

CoachFX is a multimedia software package that combines illustrations, 3D animations and digital video to simulate soccer tactics, patterns and game plans. Clients include Celtic, Rangers, Manchester United and the Scottish Football Association.

The benefits to students of using the interactive package go way beyond better soccer skills, says the Glasgow distributor. “CoachFX engages young people in learning within the context of football, is curriculum-linked for school and further education, and develops core IT and communication skills.”
