Like their state counterparts, Catholic independent schools are enjoying unprecedented popularity among non-Catholics.
According to a survey of 147 schools in the Catholic Independent Schools Conference, more than half of pupils in 44 per cent of its schools are not of the faith, and for the first time all Catholic schools have opened their doors to non-Catholics. In addition, 58 per cent of schools report a growth in pupil numbers and have a waiting list, compared to 48 per cent last year, while numbers in the majority of the remainder remain static.
The survey was published this week during the CISC annual conference at Ampleforth College.
