In the report on changes in the way music services are delivered nationwide, which otherwise had much to commend it (TES, Music Survey, June 30), you suggested that North Yorkshire County Council refused “to trade with grant maintained schools” as a matter of policy.

That is not the case. The fact is that we only have one grant-maintained school in North Yorkshire, a primary school with around 20 pupils. If it, or any other grant-maintained school which might be set up in the county in future, wished to buy tuition from us we should do our very best to oblige.

The fact that we do not trade music services should not be interpreted as unwillingness to do so if the opportunity arose.
