Opt-out rejected

Barbara Priestman, a Sunderland school for physically handicapped children, has become the first special school to vote against adopting grant-maintained status.

The school, for 147 pupils aged three to 19, voted 64 per cent against opting out on a turn-out of 85 per cent of the parents.
