Ordnance Survey has strayed from its usual path to produce a map of historical rather than geographical precision. Produced in partnership with English Heritage, the wall map of Roman Britain features the major landmarks of Britain circa ad43-ad410.
Towns are given modern and Roman names, and roads, tribal areas, fortresses and villas are also labelled.
In addition to the main map, the 93.5cm x 104cm poster has information, colour photographs ad diagrams on major achievements and aspects of Roman society. The building of Hadrian’s Wall, road construction, the popularity of Roman baths, the first invasions, religion and Queen Boudicca’s rebellion are among the topics covered. There is also a timeline of Britain in the Roman Empire.
