Other side of the EIS debate

The letters page appears to have contained of late an inordinate amount of correspondence directed against the EIS.

In order to present a balanced view, and to provide substance as opposed to rhetoric, readers should note the following.

If ReclaimEIS and their friends, the SSTA and Voice, had their way in the last pay and conditions ballot, the following would have occurred:

a cut in pay for all teachers, 7 per cent being the quoted figure;

compulsory redundancies;

loss of national bargaining;

imposition of whatever McCormac throws up;

individual authorities devising their own sets of conditions and pay.
