INTERESTING to hear Education Secretary Estelle Morris on the historical failure of UK schools to address the teaching of modern foreign languages.
Apparently, she would like primary schools to offer these from age seven, which begs the questions “where?” and “when?”
When so much emphasis is placed on basic skills, it is inevitable that other subjects get marginalised.
When will the Government realise that if we are serious about offering foundation subjects effectively, schools need to be granted more flexibility and the demands of the core curriculum have to be reduced? There are only so many hours in a day, after all.
