Mr Pirani says staff numbers at Crown Woods were being cut by 23, including 17 teachers. This is not true. Last year, the equivalent of eight full-time posts ended. We assume Mr Pirani is talking about these. Most were temporary contracts and there were one or two voluntary redundancies. No teacher was made compulsorily redundant as a result of developments.

Posts were lost last summer because, at that time, the school had a huge budget deficit. The formula for funding Crown Woods was the same as for every other school in the borough. At the time, it did not score highly on any of the indicators which trigger higher levels of funding, and therefore faced cuts.

It is true that the parents were not able to see all the governors at the meeting last March It was explained to them that some of the governors might be needed to hear appeals if there were redundancies. As it turned out, there were no redundancies - but, at the time, the governors did not know if there would be.

The governors were advised by Greenwich Council. The education authority is happy that the advice it gave was correct at the time - and would give the same advice again.

The whole process was conducted in accordance with government regulations and every effort was made to involve all parents, governors, and pupils.

Crown Woods went through a difficult patch. That is in the past now. Greenwich is very proud of the progress it has made and sees it as a school with a bright future. The school enjoys excellent support from parents and the community. It deserves praise and support for the future.
