Richard Goring, the SSTA’s education convener, says that a distinction has to be made between pupils with behavioural problems and those with learning or medical problems. The latter “have a determination to achieve which means there is a positive attitude to coping”.
But others “often attempt to disrupt teaching and frequently encourage other pupils to misbehave. They have a disproportionate effect on classroom ethos and all too often have a negative impact on the learning experience of other pupils.”
In Mr Goring’s opinion: “Changing their perception of learning is education’s greatest challenge.”
