Our time is nearly up to change curriculum

I would like to add my approval to the inclusion of English literature in the new English Baccalaureate (“EBac could be rewritten to include English lit”, March 25). Much of my angst in a letter last month has been soothed.

But I would still like to see the end of this charade whereby exam boards offer the “domestic” IGCSE. If English literature has to be studied for the EBac, then what is the point of opting for a course that is simply language-based in order to avoid the content-heavy requirements of the national curriculum?

Either abolish the national curriculum or keep everyone in line and end this rush to produce higher and greater numbers of results for a lower quality of learning.
