* “Design Machine”, at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow until January 9, forms part of the city’s 1999 festival of Architecture and Design. It features various installations such as the Responsive Seating project, which includes the “Hug Me” and “Pumping Heart” chairs. * The Dean Gallery, the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art’s new centre in Belford Road, Edinburgh, houses the Paolozzi Gift of sculpture and graphic art, Dada and Surrealist work and the Demarco Archive. * “Bonjour Mr Fergusson”, opened on September 20 at the Fergusson Gallery, Perth. Madderty Primary School pupils have selected works by Fergusson and their own work is displayed alongside with comments about how the artist’s work inspired them. Further information can be obtained on: 01738 632488.

* The Dorset Teddy Bear Museum traces the history of the teddy bear from early this century. It features some old and rare characters, like “Michael”, the museum’s oldest and rarest from the Ideal Toy Co of America’s original pattern and a walking, talking “Mr Edward”.
