‘Out of date’ heads slammed

Stephen Hillier, the chief executive of the Training and Development Agency for Schools, has described heads in England as “out of date” for their reluctance to offer part-time and flexible jobs to women. According to government data, 20 years ago some 15,000 teachers returned to teaching each year, about half full-time, half part-time; today, the figure has dropped to 9,000.
