New leadership at Doncaster College is making a difference, Ofsted says. Good progress is being made, less than a year since Rowland Foote took over after the college was judged inadequate last summer.

Despite opening a Pounds 68 million waterfront campus in 2006, the college suffered a leadership crisis, with David Gates, its last principal, leaving the job after two terms.

Inspectors said: “Progress is being made in all the areas identified for improvement at the previous inspection, and positive impact on learners is apparent. Staff are working together well to bring about improvements.

“The college now has a strong culture of accountability and a much greater use of management information to support judgements and formulate effective intervention strategies. Retention and attendance have improved.”
