UNIVERSITY vice-chancellors may eye the skies a little enviously tonight - one of their number has just had an asteroid named after him.
Twenty-five years after teaching young Duncan Steel physics, Geoffrey Copland, VC of Westminster University, has been rewarded for the inspiration he gave the future astronomer.
Dr Steel went on to discover a string of asteroids and, having run out of members of his immediate family to name them after, turned to his old physics prof. Now Geoffrey will forever be remembered by a lump of rock somewhere between Mars and Jupiter...
