WHINGE of the week: independent Bradford Grammar School complains that Oxford and Cambridge might be discriminating against public schools in favour of (gasp) the state sector.

“All we ask for our boys and girls is that they are given a fair crack of the whip,” thunders headteacher StephenDavidson in the Bradford Telegraph and Argus, adding that his school (fees: pound;5,000 pa) hasn’t actually been discriminated against yet.

Oxford, incidentally, took 47 per cent of its students from independent schools last year against 44 per cent from the much larger state sector.
