More children will be able to start their education in an Oxford school, after the council gave a local school permission to increase their yearly intake.

St. Nicholas’ Primary School in Marston will see their annual entry rise to 60 per year - 15 more than present.

Building plans for two new classrooms to accommodate the extra pupils at the school were given the go-ahead by Councillor Michael Waine, cabinet member for schools improvement.

“Oxford city is experiencing a steep rise in pupil numbers and it makes sense for the council to look at expanding schools to accommodate them,” said Councillor Waine.

“The number of applications for children to begin their education at St Nicholas’ Primary School in September 2008 was significantly more than the spaces available.” JE.
