In “Get ‘em young and they’re upright for life” (TES, November 11), the box about the teacher does not include a reference to ourselves, the Professional Association of Alexander Teachers (PAAT).

We would like to point out that there is no umbrella society for the Alexander Technique which embraces all Alexander teachers, and that there are in fact several societies and associations.

It is definitely not the case that qualified teachers must have completed a three-year course recognised by any one of these organisations. PAAT runs a four-year training course for teachers based at Westhill College in Birmingham, with qualification by written and practical examinations.
