There is an alternative to queuing up in London to see the latest array of artwork produced by the public for the Royal Academy’s summer exhibition.

To coincide with the 239th exhibition, the academy has set up an online gallery of art produced by A-level pupils from 30 London schools.

Norman Rosenthal, the exhibition’s curator, says he has been surprised by the quality of entries. “This could pass for a very good first-year show in an art college,” he says. The academy hopes to open the competition to all UK schools next year. For more information visit
