Palestinian conflict cuts into school budgets

ISRAEL: Education minister Limor Livnat is fighting a move to cut pound;28 million off this year’s schools budget as part of an emergency plan to raise nearly pound;470m for defence in the face of ongoing conflict with the Palestinians. The minister says that prgrammes for the weakest pupils will be hardest hit, such as support for school drop-outs, psychological and counselling services, clubs offering after-school activities and transport for youngsters with learning difficulties.
