It’s hard to see what you could take out of Narnia - definitely not the Turkish Delight - but HarperCollins is none the less working on abridged editions of the seven novels with new colour illustrations by Pauline Baynes.
Fortunately, there’s time to read the unabridged Collins editions before the centenary of Lewis’s birth on November 29. The first centenary event is a schools’ contest to design Christmas cards representing each book. The contest is open to ages 10-plus and closes on March 5.
