Stephen Jones’ commentary on the inflation of exam-related paperwork, from one page to seven, within his working lifetime made me reflect on my planning as a teacher (“I hate to moan, but ...”, 23 August).

Thirty years ago it consisted of a leaf of A4 paper, carefully removed from a pad, on to which a handwritten scheme of work had flowed from a biro. This week I confessed to a colleague that my planning for the coming year had reached 40 pages, composed on a computer and in PowerPoint. Like Mr Jones, I had not noticed the incremental growth until I shared the experience with someone else. Can anyone top 40 pages?
