In the latest initiative to involve parents, the Education Minister today (Friday) launched a series of support packages on how parents can support children’s learning.

Making the Difference, the first pack, reflects the official view that regular homework is equivalent to an extra year’s schooling.

Hoping to counter the charge from at least one parent leader that this initiative is “patronising”, Peter Peacock stressed the three levels of material: succinct information, more practical information for those who need additional support and staff development advice for schools.
