American families are scaling back their support for their children’s college education because of the recession, according to a survey commissioned by college lender Sallie Mae. The study, conducted by Gallup, showed that the proportion of families planning to make little or no contribution to tuition increased, while those expecting to cover more than half of expenses decreased.
