I WRITE as a parent of a pupil in the middle years of secondary.

My son is likely to be among the first to be affected by the Higher Still changes, but despite the reams of controversy in the press - most of it generated by teachers and conducted in terms familiar to the profession - little or nothing has been done by the Government to tell parents what is going on.

Helen Liddell could pause for a moment in her scrapping with the teacher unions (and the SNP) and explain the Higher Still proposals to lay people with a close interest in their success.
