THE Enquire advice service on special needs has received 750 calls since it opened last November, three-quarters from parents. Of the callers, 27 per cent complained about the level of services. Grievances include support being withdrawn without review and delays in receiving help.

Some 23 per cent of enquiries have been about support for learning, the level that can be expected and schools’ access to specialist help

Children in Scotland, which manages Enquire with pound;621,000 of Scottish Executive funding, comments: “Parents have expressed concern over the lack of access to all the information available, particularly in relation to assessments and records of needs.”

Enquire has also heard to complaints about poor communication between professionals in different fields and a lack of co-ordination for special needs.
