SCHOOLS are still excluding children for becoming pregnant or not obeying school uniform rules, despite Government guidance to the contrary, according to parents’ helpline charity ACE.

Susan Rees, ACE’s advice line co-ordinator, added that vulnerable children with special educational needs were particularly at rik - citing the example of an autistic five-year-old expelled for humming in class. Latest Department for Education and Employment statistics for 19989 show pupils with special needs statements were seven times more likely to be excluded than other pupils. ACE’s exclusion information line is 020 7704 9822.
