Parents who take their family on holiday in term time could be fined pound;100 by the school’s headteacher if they fail to get permission for their children to miss lessons. Ivan Lewis, education minister, said taking such holidays without permission is truancy. Heads can allow up to 10 days’

absence in a school year, but Mr Lewis said holidays should be the exception.
