Labour’s latest plan to expand the number of after-school clubs for the under-fives (TES, November 8), assumes that exhausted pupils and teachers want to extend their day. Surely, where possible, parents should be encouraged to look after their own children rather than rely on the school? Are we not in danger of confusing child care with parent care?
