(Photograph) - Parents should have to sign a contract agreeing to equip their children with the basic tools of schooling, such as a bag, pen, pencil and rubber, a majority of delegates agreed. Jim Falconer, Angus, said that parents at his school consistently ignored letters asking them to ensure their children came prepared to study. Hazel Ralston, Glasgow, opposed the motion, saying that parents with drug, drink and depression problems needed teachers’
support and that such a motion would alienate them. Mr Falconer replied:
