With reference to the recently announced independent review of universities, the British Federation of Women Graduates is aware of the very real hardship experienced by part-time university students. These students are not eligible for student loans or grants, and they have to pay their own fees.

It is the federation’s policy to seek grants for students in such circumstances and we would hope that they would be included in any review of funding.

As present trends reveal a growth in the number of part-time students, partly due to the reduction in grants and to the increasing need to retrain at least once during the working life, funding for these students will become increasingly necessary.
