Contrary to David Taylor’s assertion (TES, Letters, March 6), Universities Council for the Education of Teachers’ criticisms of school-centred initial teacher training schemes are not self-interested but made on the basis of evidence and in the interests of high quality teacher training. We applaud the commitment of SCITT schools, but wish they would enter into partnership with their local college or university since, as evidenced by HMI reports, that is the route to the best quality education and training.
