Teachers may be forced to have “child care passports” under plans being considered by the Government to protect young people from those with criminal pasts.

The Department for Education and Skills revealed the plan this week in the Bichard inquiry, which is investigating how Soham murderer Ian Huntley got a job as a school caretaker despite previous accusations of rape and indecent assault.

Child care passports would show employers that job candidates had been vetted. These would be checked against a database which would be updated with any new allegations.
