A multi-millionaire meat magnate is due to sponsor his second academy.

David Samworth, chairman of Samworth Brothers, the food business that makes Ginster pasties, will joint-sponsor an academy, with the Anglican Church, to replace New college, Leicester. The two organisations are already backing the Samworth Enterprise academy, which replaces the former Mary Linwood school in Leicester. The governing body of New college, in special measures since 2003, was disbanded last month and replaced with a council-appointed executive board in a last-ditch rescue attempt.
