To the tutored eye, the built environment is full of mathematical, historical and aesthetic information. Six posters from the Construction Industry Training Board, each with a good selection of colour photographs, have been produced to provide varied points of entry into the curriculum. Those dealing with patterns such as those found in brick bonds and tiling, as well as larger forms such as spiral staircases, are obviously for younger learners. Others show how human ingenuity can transform natural materials or put curves and lines to the severest practical use. The set of six CITB posters costs pound;15 (incl. pamp;p) from DAR Printing, 4 Redhill Close, Thurmaston, Leicester LE4 8FU. Tel: 0116 260 3072. Cheques payable to Leics. EBC.
