Pay rises agreed

* Ministers have agreed pay rises of up to 9 per cent for all but the most senior civil servants in a deal that virtually abandons performance-related pay, writes Ian Nash.

The deal gives a minimum of 4 per cent, but most will receive 4.7 to 9 per cent. Employers and unions in education say the deal sets a new benchmark for settlements with schools and colleges.
