Your articles about the two-year freeze on teachers’ pay contain an error.

They make it sound as if teachers will get 2.5 per cent in April 2005 plus another 3.25 per cent in September 2005. This is wrong. Teachers will get 2.5 per cent in April 2005 plus another 0.75 per cent in September 2005.

That is, the pay review body recommended 3.25 per cent from April 2005 but the Government, like all governments before it, decided that the nation could manage with teachers on the cheap and reduced the recommendation by staging.

Mis-representation of the facts makes the intention of cheating and short-changing teachers easier to get away with.
