The School Teachers’ Review Body will meet next week to discuss teachers’

union demands for an extra pay increase to keep pace with rising living costs.

Latest inflation figures, published on Tuesday, hit 4.8 per cent, the highest rate in 16 years and far above the 2.5 per cent pay rise that teachers are getting.

The two biggest teachers’ unions, the NUT and NASUWT, have threatened strike action if the Government tries to cap teachers’ pay rises at 2 per cent.
