Numerous schemes to give second-hand computers from industry into schools have been announced, sparked controversy and then disappeared without trace in recent years. Now a Hertfordshire company intends selling them to schools. Technical Asset Management, an IT remarketing company that claims to resell 50,000 PCs a year, has set up a new division called IT in Education to sell recycled machines to schools.

The firm says a 486 Multimedia PC, for example, costs just Pounds 140. It also sells second-hand peripherals such as scanners and printers, as well as laptop computers. IT in Education, Technical Asset Management is based at City Park, Watchmead, Welwyn Garden City AL7 1AT. Tel: 01707 885308.
