David Croll, executive director at Barnsley College, has been appointed principal-designate of Derby Tertiary College, Wilmorton.
The International School Moshi, Kilimanjaro, Tanzania has announced the following appointments for the academic year 1995-96: at Moshi campus, Terry Garbett, formerly boarding master at St Andrew’s School, Blantyre, Malawi, is to be head of boarding and Phil Hudson, currently a deputy head in Walsall who has worked in Yemen and Colombia, is to be head of primary. At Arusha campus, Lynda Stephenson from New Zealand is to be head of primary and deputy head and Kevin Hawkins, currently coordinator of language development at Waverley Middle School, Bradford, is to be head of junior secondary.
Honorary degrees to be conferred by Sheffield University include: doctorate of laws to Sir Robert Kilpatrick, president of the General Medical Council and former dean of the university’s faculty of medicine and dentistry; doctorate of engineering to Professor Michael Sterling, vice-chancellor of Brunel University; doctorate of metallurgy to Professor Graeme Davies, chief executive, Higher Education Funding Council and vice-chancellor elect of Glasgow University; doctorate of letters to Professor Peter Hall, University College, London and special adviser to the Secretary of State for the Environment; and doctorate of science to John Rimington, director-general of the Health and Safety Executive.
