Paul Doherty, acting chief education officer at Brent since April, is now chief education officer. He replaces George Benham, the former director of education, arts and libraries, who is now the council’s chief executive.

John Ginnever, deputy director of education at Newcastle, has been appointed director of education, leisure and libraries at the East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Peter Tregenna, South Devon’s area education officer, has been appointed chief adviser for Devon.

Dr Philip Evans, head of Bedford School, Dr John Marks, researcher and Open University tutor, and Graham Mackenzie, director-general, Engineering Employers’ Federation, have been re-appointed to the board of the School Curriculum and Assessment Authority.

The London Borough of Camden has appointed the following heads: Alison McKeown, formerly deputy head of St Stephen’s primary school, London W1, who has replaced Gilbert Reines at St Mary’s Kilburn; and Kaushi Silva, formerly head of Brentfield School, Neasden, London NW10, who replaces Brian Melling at Primrose Hill and takes over from deputyacting head, Adele Stirling.
