Michael Jennings, director of curriculum and planningfor East Sussex, has been appointed corporate director of education for Somerset. He succeeds Nick Henwood, chief education officer, who left in the autumn to become strategic director (education and libraries) for Kent.

Christopher Allen, head of Rydal Penrhos Girls’ School, north Wales, has been appointed head of Red House School, Norton on Tees, replacing Matthew England who retires in the summer after more than 15 years in the post Ken Follett, the author, has taken over from actress Susan Hampshire as president of the Dyslexia Institute.
