Anthony Wallersteiner has been appointed the new head of Stowe, the Buckinghamshire independent school, from September 2003. He will succeed Jeremy Nichols, who retires next July after 14 years in office.

Dr Wallersteiner, 38, is currently a housemaster at Tonbridge School, which he joined in 1993 as head of the history department and organiser of the sixth-form seminar programme. He has taught at other private schools including St Paul’s and Sherborne.

Trevor Evans, head of Bowling Green junior and infant school near Halifax, Yorkshire, has been appointed principal education consultant with CCDU Training and Consultancy, a specialist education training company based at Leeds University.

Mr Evans has developed an expertise in training teachers for the national professional qualification for headship since it began four years ago. He is also involved in the Headlamp programme (leadership and management for new heads), and is helping to develop a course on emotional intelligence.

Born and educated in Halifax, he began his career teaching PE and maths before becoming deputy head after five years. He is also an Office for Standards in Education inspector and a performance management consultant.
