Jeanne Harding will become principal of Dudley College, West Midlands, when Dr Gordon Hopkins retires next April after more than 23 years’ service. Mrs Harding has been principal of Huddersfield Technical College for the past five years and acting principal and vice- principal for the previous three years.

Tony Thorne, head of Hanson School in Bradford and Margaret Platts, deputy head of Greenhead high school, are acting as executive head and associate head, respectively, of Carlton Bolling College, Bradford. They have been appointed by Education Bradford until September to work with the governors to appoint a permanent leadership team and to move the college out of special measures. Former head Simon Willis left at the end of last term to work for the South Bradford Federation.

Sara Williams became the new adviser to Christine Gilbert, chief executive of the east London borough of Tower Hamlets, earlier this month.

She will oversee a range of council services including communications, regeneration, crime reduction, equality and research .

Ms Williams was assistant director of education in Tower Hamlets for five years.
