Clive Carthew, director of curriculum forward planning at the International Baccalaureate in Cardiff, and Claire Thomas, head of the English department at Ysgol Dyffryn Taf, Whitland, have been appointed to the Curriculum and Assessment Authority for Wales until September 1998.

Harry Bower, deputy director of education for Rotherham, has been appointed programme area director for education services in a reorganisation of the authority. He succeeds Brian Yemm, the director of education, who is retiring.

Elizabeth Spillman, assistant principal of Chesterfield College of Further Education, has been appointed vice principal with responsibility for curriculum delivery and quality development at New People’s College, Nottingham.
