Professor Leonard Marsh OBE is retiring as principal of Bishop Grosseteste College, Lincoln, after 22 years in the post. Professor Norma Reid, pro vice-chancellor of Coventry University, is to succeed Dr Michael Gillett as deputy vice-chancellor (resources) of Plymouth University. Dr Gillett retires in August after 28 years at the university.

The French government has bestowed the honour of Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Academiques upon Barrie Whyman, head of science, engineering and construction at Burton upon Trent Technical College. Nigel Hill has been appointed continuing education adviser of the new Harper Adams Centre for Continuing Vocational Education at Harper Adams Agricultural College, Newport, Shropshire. He previously spent 10 years coordinating agricultural training at ATB Landbase and can be contacted on 01952 815201. Glyn Jones, a part-time student at Croydon College, has been awarded one of the international Brigid M Cotter prizes in law, which are given to the best students on the LLB (law degree) course worldwide. He aims to complete the degree in the same time as a full-time student would.
