Dr Margaret Hustler, head of St Michael’s School, Oxted, Surrey, will become head of Harrogate Ladies’ College, Yorkshire, at the end of the summer term.

Dr George Giarchi, who has been head of Plymouth University’s Community Research Centre for the past five years and is an expert on the needs of older people, has retired from full-time work at the age of 65. But he is back part-time as the university’s emeritus professor of social care studies.

Dr Paul Gray, deputy chief education officer for Devon, has been appointed director of education for Surrey. He takes over in March from joint acting directors of education, Denise Stoke and Steve Clarke.
