Clive Ian Spencer Dickinson, an inspector of schools and head of the junior school at the Royal Grammar School, Newcastle upon Tyne, is to be head of the Exeter Cathedral School from September.

David Birch, deputy head of Bicester Community College, Oxfordshire, will become principal of Sidmouth College, Devon, in April upon the retirement of Michael Owen.

Brendan Wignall, head of English and registrar at Denstone College, Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, will become head of Ellesmere College, Shropshire, in September succeeding David Du Croz who is to take up the post of head of history at Marlborough College, Wiltshire.

Helen Tennant, lecturer in educational technology at St Andrew’s College of Education, has been appointed a member of the Radio Authority for a period of five years. She has previously served on the Independent Television Commission’s Consultative Council for Scotland.

Howard Goodall, the composer and musician, has been appointed president of the London College of Music at Thames Valley University.

Bob Galbraith, deputy head of art and design at Hatch End High School, Harrow, Middlesex, has won a North West London Training and Enterprise Council Rubicon Award for Teacher Placement of the Year 1995. His work at Kodak Ltd was part of an initiative to extend photography as part of the national curriculum from the primary school sector to Harrow High Schools.
