David Nixon has been appointed director of education, libraries and arts at Solihull. Formerly deputy director of education at the borough, he succeeds former director of education, Christopher Trinick, who became chief education officer for Lancashire in January.

Andrew Baxter, director of education for Bromley, is to be director of education, libraries and heritage for Cambridgeshire. He will replace John Ferguson, the present director of education, who is retiring from the council in July.

At the Roehampton Institute, London SW15, Dr Peter Weston has been appointed principal of Froebel College and a pro-rector of the Institute. Formerly assistant rector (academic affairs) at Roehampton, he has replaced Philip Robinson, who is now director of the Chichester Institute of Higher Education.

Dr Bernadette Porter, principal of Digby Stuart College and a pro-rector of the Institute, is now senior pro-rector.

Stewart Jones, leader of a field planning team responsible for a Pounds 2.8 billion budget delivered through the Manpower Services Commission's regional office structure, has been seconded to CAPITB plc, Leeds, as manager of the industry training organisation division.

Gill Lenderyou, formerly consultant to the Sex Education Alliance at the Health Education Authority, has been appointed senior development officer to the Sex Education Forum, a nationwide group which promotes effective sex education for children and young people.
