The University of Central England, Birmingham, is conferring honorary doctorates on Sir Reginald Eyre, chair of the Birmingham Heartlands Development Corporation (an urban development agency); Graham Meldrum, chief fire officer of the West Midlands Fire Service; and Sir Stephen Tumim, principal of St Edmund Hall, Oxford University and former chief inspector of prisons for England and Wales.

Jonathan Morgan and Stephen Power, 16-year-old students from the King’s School, Gloucester, have been awarded choral scholarships allowing them to sing in the Cathedral choir. Robert Poyser has been awarded an organ scholarship, through which he receives tuition from David Briggs, the Cathedral’s music director, and plays the Cathedral organ at every Tuesday service.
