Performance pay destroys the team

DOES Education Secretary Estelle Morris realise what the Government’s drive on performance-related pay is going to do to the teaching profession?

I work in a challenging 11-16 comprehensive. I have always valued the help and respect I have received from my colleagues. The support and teamwork of staff is an absolute necessity if one is to cope, never mind excel, in teaching. Many recent initiatives - from the Office for Standards in Education’s increasing presence to PRP - undermine these two basic essentials. How can you expect trust and professionalism to develop in an atmosphere where every line manager is a potential salary enhancer?
